The Glitter Grading Scale

It’s that time of year: when end-of-term papers are starting to roll in (or we’re frantically grading work we’ve had for a week or two or three).  My friends and I were discussing more efficient ways to grade and communicate feedback with our students, and as often happens among my friends, we started to joke about things we could do.

And that’s when we landed on Glitter, which is something we hold in highest esteem.

In place of the lengthy feedback we normally give to student work, we considered the possibility of communicating their success (or possible lack of) through glitter.  The amount of glitter would be directly proportional to the quality of the work they turned in.
