Welcome to My (Think)Tank

This blog began a decade ago in one of my first graduate courses in rhetoric and composition, and at that point, I had no idea what lay ahead for me (or just how much that one course with that one professor would change everything I thought I wanted to do). In the decade since, I earned my doctorate in Writing Studies and completed additional graduate work in Tech Comm while guiding many students through learning academic and professional writing.

Though my primary interests are in the two-year college classroom and the students who choose to learn there, I’ve worked in professional writing and editing, laying the foundations for a reinvigorated university department’s newsletter, managing newsletter and web content for a professional association, and editing content and curriculum for an educational consulting group.

I like making order from chaos, finding the threads that link pieces together, and figuring my way out of and through problems. My work in Writing Studies provided the foundations needed to research, synthesize, critique, improve, and be flexible. My learning in Tech Comm has given me tools and literacies to communicate to a wider audience–and help my students become the writers they want to become.
